What the tool counts
Paste or type your text: the tool counts words, characters (with and without spaces), sentences and paragraphs as you type, then estimates silent reading time (200 words per minute) and reading aloud (130 words per minute). Everything is computed in your browser; the text is never sent anywhere.
Word splitting follows Unicode segmentation, tuned for French: “l’arbre” or “aujourd’hui” count as one word, a compound like “porte-monnaie” counts as two, and a decimal number like “3.5” stays a single word.
Limitations
Sentence counting is a punctuation-based heuristic: an abbreviation followed by a period (“Mr. Smith”) may be counted as a sentence end. Paragraphs are blocks separated by at least one blank line — a single line break does not start a new one. Reading speeds are averages; the actual pace depends on the text and the reader.
